Troubleshooting

Jobs are not appearing in Google for Jobs

The plugin’s job is to publish correct job data and point search engines at it. Whether Google shows a particular role, and when, is Google’s decision — so this article separates what you can fix from what nobody can promise.

What you control

Check these first

  • Is the site indexable at all? Settings → Reading. If "Discourage search engines" is ticked, nothing on the site will be indexed. This is the single commonest cause, and it is usually left over from building the site.
  • Does the page have job structured data? Test a single job page with Google’s Rich Results Test. It will tell you whether the markup is present and valid.
  • Is the role in the job sitemap? Open the sitemap and look. A role that qualifies should be listed.
  • Has Search Console been told? Submit the job sitemap in Google Search Console. Google needs to know where to look, and Search Console is also where it reports problems back to you.
  • Is the role actually open? A closed role is deliberately marked as expired and leaves the sitemap. It will not appear, and should not.

Our side

What the plugin is responsible for

Structured dataJob structured data on every job page, built from your Bullhorn fields
Job sitemapKept in step with the board, with closed roles leaving within one run
Canonical addressesOne address per role. Filtered and paginated listing addresses point back to the unfiltered listing, and only the first page is offered for indexing
ExpiryA closed role carries a past expiry date in its structured data, which is how Google is told a posting is retired
Stable addressesA role’s address is assigned once and never regenerated, so a role that is reopened keeps whatever position it had earned

Nobody can promise you a Google for Jobs listing

Not us, and not anyone selling you a job board. Google decides what to show, applies its own quality judgements, and changes them. What a plugin can do is publish correct, complete, well-structured job data at a stable address and keep it current — and then your roles compete on their merits. Be wary of anybody who promises more than that.

Then what

If everything checks out and roles still are not showing

Use Google Search Console. It will tell you whether Google has crawled the pages, whether it found the structured data, and whether it rejected anything — which is information no plugin can give you, because it is Google’s own verdict.

Indexing also takes time. A new site with no history is not indexed in a day, and job postings on a domain Google has never seen before are slower still. Give it weeks rather than hours before concluding something is broken.

If Search Console reports a structured data error on a job page, send us the error and the page address. That one is ours.
